210fps and impala

Postby Hanes » Thu Jan 04, 2018 4:15 pm

Hi, my daughters setup with 380gr arrows and 26" draw only gives 210fps. Can she hunt impala or will she be string jumped all the time?

I’ve had impala that did not move at all before the arrow hit, and some where the results showed very definite signs of string jumping even though my arrows (520gr) fly at around 280fps.
Make sure the animal is very calm and preferably pre-occupied, like busy eating etc. With enough patience, l think it is possible.

I have had clients shoot impala at 160fps.Bow super quite ,distance max 12 yards and most important shooting at the right time.

210 is above most Recurve /traditional bows, so I think the speed is not a big concern...
A calm animal, and shorter distance, after lots of practice will deliver a successful hunt - I'm positive.

I will recommend a cut on contact 2 blade fix blade broadhead. Apart from that the setup will kill Impala.

Most important is that the arrow must fly true and hit the the right spot. (Well tuned bow combined with good shooting form and correct shot placement is key. Plus all the good advice given by the others)
