Ek soek nog 'n 58"+ vir my studeer kamer.

Kudu records

Postby Bayls » Mon Aug 13, 2012 10:43 am

Morning all. I was wondering where I can see bowhunting records for kudu. This weekend I shot a kudu measuring 58 3/4 inches as measured by the taxidermist. This is the biggest kudu I've ever seen let alone shoot and I believe it must score well! Even after the drying period it must be over 58 inches.
Many thanks!

Welcome to the forum and congrats on a lovely kudu! Any pictures for us?

Are you looking for the forum records? Or for Rowland Ward and/or SCI? In that case RW has no differentiation, all animals shot are hunted and fall into the book be it bow, rifle, handgun etc. For RW only the longest horn is measured. The minimum is 53 7/8" and the current record is a massive 73 7/8".

SCI however does have a seperate scoring system for each weapon as well as an overall section. Your kudu will score well (gold medal I think) but SCI measures both horns as well as the bases for kudu. Gold medal for kudu is a score of 128.875. So if both horns are 58 this leaves you 12 points off with the bases still to measure so it should comfortably make it there. The current top 10 (bow): number 1 scores 149 6/8 and number 10 scores 145 3/8.

Again welcome, look forward to hearing some stories!
