Are rangefinders allowed on SABA shoots? What's the difference between this and the IBO 3D shoots?

1) Rangefinders and binos are allowed.

2) SABA competition is hunting orientated. We present you with 20 3D targets placed in such a way as you would find real animals in the veld. This means that you will not always have a clear shooting lane. Our no. 1 rule is that you have to touch the peg from which you shoot. This can very well result in you sitting to be able to take a shot.
Most important is that we give you the option to select the peg you want to shoot from. If you feel you are not up for the shot presented from peg 5 then you can move to peg 4 and evaluate that shot. Still not happy, you move to 3 etc. SABA scoring works reverse from other competitions in the sense that the killzone has no value. The peg from which you shoot carries the value. Only 3 possible outcomes for a shot, 1 - hit the killzone. 2 - hit animal but outside of killzone which is a wound and 3) missing the target - miss shot.
In case 1 if you have shot from peg 5 then the kill scores you 5 points. 4 if you have shot from 4 etc.
In case 2 the peg value does not count as it is scored as a wound which carries a negative value of -1
In case 3 you peg value does not count as it is scored as a miss which carries a negative value of -2

This format promotes ethical and responsible hunting, for it is you the hunter that has to make the decisions whether a shot is within your ability to take.

And what no other competition do, we allow you to use broadheads. This is to allow you to experience the effect that a change in shooting form can have on arrow flight. Rather miss the killzone on a 3D target than on a real animal.

Hope this helps and that we will see you at our next shoot........

Daniel

SABA is really challenging and if you shoot broadheads it is tough! Some shots you sit, others you need to stand on your toes, some you need to stand in a bush and evaluate where your arrow needs to go through the branches and the worst is the lying on your back shots

Just joking about the last one  They really try to get you in a situation where your shooting form is tested in tight spots, which quickly shows you that if your form is not 100% you will wound!!

If you want to walk and stalk, this is the practice ground where you are put in that situation that you don't want to be in, but so often get yourself in. I will check if I still have some photos of shots and post it here.

My sons enjoy the SABA format more than any other format.
The format has instill in them a responsibility that has trickled trough to there hunting. If they shoot a distance longer than they are capable, there is consequences. My oldest son try to better his score with every event.

Some more photos:

Kneeling and up-hill shot.

Sitting and lean a bit to get through a small space between branches in front of the target.

A Branch in front of target to intimidate the "hunters" a bit...... Seems it acts as a magnet for some......

Another 3 that I liked. Vick I must say, going through the photos, eventhough there were better scores, those first ones that was at Dinokeng were very tough through the bushes and around the trees

Agree Bernhardt, the range at Dinokeng was not the easiest. Think due to the level of difficulty one focus more resulting in better scores.

Waar is die junior klas?

SABA WEB Page wrote:........We cater for young and old. Our Cubs Class is all preschoolers. Primary school students will fall under junior and from Gr. 8 (secondary school) is considered Senior. Open class category will come into effect when your stabilizer exceeds 12 inches or if you have a field point on your arrow. Only fixed broadheads and mechanical broadheads will be allowed in the hunters class with a stabilizer 12 inches and shorter. Currently the stabilizer length is set on 12 inches.

Dus Voorskool kinders is Cubs
